NYSC CAMP LIFESTYLE
1. CHARGING OF PHONES
Some camps don’t allow corps members to charge their phones in the hostel or any where in NYSC building. Do not even think of breaking this rule because there are no socket there. Corps members pay #50 to charge their phones and torchlight at maami market inside the NYSC camp. Some of the shops are being owned by the NYSC officials. There might be light in the hostel but with that light or no light, you must pay for your phones to be charged.
2. LIGHT OUT HOUR.
As regard the light out hour, different camp operates on different light out hour. Some camp operates on 9 pm while majority operates on 10:00 pm. So once it is 10:00 pm, corps members are expected to be on their bed by that particular time hugging their respective mattresses. At this time, the only noise expected of you is snoring. All lights must be off, no call, no chat, no loitering until 4:00 am when soldiers will visit you.
3. LOVE AND ROMANCE.
NYSC Camp Lifestyle wont allow this ship move well! funny right. Maybe you have heard or misinformed that NYSC camp is an opportunity for sexual activities. That’s a lie. Even some Bad boys went far to bring condoms to camp and waiting for time to perform their skills but sorry, there is no room for sex…bad market right? Soldiers patrol 24hrs/21days in the hostels to catch those hungry for sex. Remember soldiers are everywhere, if you are caught, you’ll be sent away from camp and also get punished.
4. NYSC FOOD.
Even though the food not always the best, just try and eat it if you can. You can also eat at the Maami market if you have enough money with you to buy yourself a good meal at the Mammi market.
5. FAINTING.
Like a corps member who served at Iseyin camp said “Fainting is a common thing that happens in the camp. You will see girls fainting during parade as if they are paid to do so. Please don’t mind me if you want to faint you can” as long as, it will save you a lot of stress in participation and probably and exist off camp. you can go ahead, but remember “faint is at your own risk” Basically, the steady occurrence of the act is sometimes due to stress. So you are advised to always go around with water to avoid being dehydrated. This mechanism will help keep your body active and ready for any task.
6. MORNING PARADE.
It’s a culture and a rule that has been put into place by the NYSC officials that you all must wake up by 4:30 or 5:00 (am) for morning drill. You will be released by 8:00 am for breakfast. After that, the most interesting activity on camp will then kick start which is the SAED lectures. It’s always an avenue to learn and gain something if you can. After SAED another drills start in the evening. Take a look at yourself, you think there is time to rest in the NYSC camp, if yes, you have deceived yourself.
7. SNORING AS A CAMP LIFESTYLE
This is one of the most annoying things you will ever experience on camp. Imagine having 400 corp members as your roommate. There would obviously be a snoring competition. Most Corp members get distracted and lose interest in resting or sleeping but I will advice you make use of that time. That’s is the little time you got to sleep, make use of it wisely.
8. STAND STILL.
As part of the NYSC Camp Lifestyle, stand still moment is a compulsory moment everyone must acknowledge while on camp. You must stand still for Nigeria to sleep and you must stand still for Nigeria to wake. This usually take place by 6:00 am early in the morning and 6:00 pm in the evening. This is a regular event that take place every day maybe raining or sunny.
9. CASH/MONEY
Based on past experience, y’all are advised to go to camp with your ATMs rather than raw cash. No nysc officials will be responsible for any lose. Kindly keep your money or valuable assets save while on camp.
