Meet Margaret the Corps member with kindness.
Odey Margaret is an Ex-Corps Member who decided to help primary students in her community by supporting their needs. However, in the recent discussions with her; here is what she has to say!
I am ODEY MARGARET AGHANA, an Ex-Corps Member, with the State Code: RV/19B/0121, a Graduate of English and International Studies from Osun State University.
I served in an NGO, Development Initiatives, a non profit making Organisation currently doing pro bono work on Grassroots and Rural Development.
Obeying the clarion call on 18th June, 2019 to serve Nigeria in Rivers State was definitely a call to serve my Fatherland with Dedication and Selflessness.
I took it upon myself to serve Humanity contributing my quota.
I believe service to Humanity is never insignificant or little and for every service rendered to Humanity, Fulfillment, Satisfaction and Happiness is given again to the Needy, Hopeless, Helpless and Homeless.
I made my findings, I was determined to make a difference in my own little way.
I acquired a skill.
Sewing!
I was bent on embarking on a Personal Community Development Service (CDS) of providing at least 50 pairs of Uniform to to the Pupils of State Model School II Orogbum, 4 Agudama Avenue, D/line Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
My effort to get support from NGOs was abortive. Eventually, I got a Sponsor, Mr Francis Sinki, a Public Servant, who supported me morally and financially. I got an approval from the Scheme (NYSC) and the journey began!
It was indeed a Herculean task, I sewed day and night. I had to combine working in my PPA (Place of Primary Assignment) with sewing the uniforms. I was stuck when Covid 19 struck the world! I couldn’t access the Market for more fabrics to reach my target. Everything stood still. It was as if I was not going to complete the task. Gradually, things began to take their proper shape. Through the help of a friend, I was able to get more fabrics.
I continued!
It was a commitment borne out of passion. I refused to be held back by challenges even though I had challenging moments.
Giving up was an option,
I never did!
I persevered!
I pressed on!
My Boss and few friends came through for me in my tough moments. We did it!
Finally, the project was commissioned by the Scheme (NYSC) on Tuesday, 16th June, 2020.
I provided 50 pairs (100 pieces) of uniform and extra 12 shirts to State Model School II Orogbum.
I survived! We made it! The passion became a reality.
My gratitude goes to Mr Francis, because of you, some Pupils can happily go to school. God bless you sir.
