The TRAVEL SAFETY TIPS FOR CORPERS post is aimed to prepare the mind of the PCMs on what not and what to do before travelling. As we are all aware that PCMs will be travelling based on the state you re been deployed to across the length and breadth of the country to the various NYSC Camps for the exercise.
So by implication, we have pulled together from different views and experience from past, present and outgoing Corps Members about what travel safety trips entails.
It is important for PCMs to note the following travel safety tips for corpers and adhere strictly to them:

- Every successful journey starts with a travel plan. PCMs, are enjoined to make adequate travel preparation before setting out on the journey. Therefore, you must ensure and crosscheck that you’ve packed all the relevant documents that will be requested at the point of registration. This is to guard against the danger of being asked to go back home and fetch the forgotten documents. Doing so will over expose you to roads fraught with so many risks.
- Kindly research your destination thoroughly before leaving. Click here to download the NYSC STATE SECRETARIATS ADDRESS. Many PCMs fail to do this neglecting the importance. Researching about your destination basically entails knowing the state you’re posted to. Get to know where you can get a bus going to that state, the fee, the arrival time and the likes. This will help your journey and keeps you off trauma
- On no account should you board a vehicle by the roadside because of seemingly attractive cheap fare. It is highway to calamity. So many have fallen prey to armed robbers, kidnappers and ritualists due to such indiscreet action. You should board vehicles only from recognized parks.
- Please, be conscious of your travel time. Journeys must be arranged in such a way that you arrive at your destination latest 6 pm. Note that if it’s not possible to arrive at your destination at the aforesaid time, please, break the journey. It’s for your own good.
- While in the bus or car, kindly avoid unnecessary argument/discussion bordering on politics and religion, among others. You may unwittingly cause offence. Keep your views to yourself.
- Be courteous, but don’t trust people too quickly and don’t be loud while answering telephone calls, so as not to unknowingly divulge information that may place you in harm’s way.
- Watch your drinking habit. Alcohol dulls your senses. Always be sober.
- Take only what you need for the journey. Don’t overburden yourself with load.
- Dress normal. Don’t overdress. Conversely, don’t dress shabbily, since either way, you unduly standout.
- Please, keep a very close watch over your personal effects.
